イギリスの大学を受験するときにパーソナルステートメント（Personal Statement）（志望動機書）を書く必要があります。

海外の大学を受験したことない人は、何を書いたら良いか分からなくて困りますよね。

僕も最初は構成をどのようにして良いか全くわからず、不安でした。

ですが、教師からの指導と試行錯誤の成果もあって、今では自己紹介文の書き方をマスターしました！

では一体どのようにPersonal Statementを記入していけば良いのでしょうか？

”Today I am writing in the hope of demonstrating the positive aspects of my personality and qualities that have developed throughout my school career.

Firstly, I believe that I have come from a background, which has shaped me into an open-minded person who likes to fully engage with any opportunity that I am presented. Having grown up in Japan I have developed a curiosity and desire to explore the world and different cultures, which I feel is one of the qualities that shapes my attitudes today. I am self-driven and always determined to conquer any challenge that I am presented with and continuously strive to become a better version of myself. This doesn’t only apply to school work but to my passion and love for tennis, art and trying new things.

I believe sports play, an important role in providing a balance between education and physical wellbeing. I wish to inspire people and learn from others during the process, forming relationships and learning more about myself as an individual. Additionally, I am somebody who likes to question life itself, I believe this is essential in creating and improving myself as someone who is versatile and to pave my path to success. Furthermore, I think one of the things that distinguishes me from others is my ability to adapt to any situation or task given, regardless of how tough it might be. I consider one of my talents is that I use my resources effectively, which in turn has led towards my interest in business and management.

Secondly, I would like to study abroad as I believe it helps my skills flourish, pushes my boundaries and helps me pursue my dreams by testing my limits. One example of where my boundaries have been tested was in Japan when there was an earthquake and for a week I helped out at a technology store; I wanted to give something back to the area in which I live and the local people. Subsequently, I continued working at this store which provided me with invaluable work experience and helped towards building my character of today. Furthermore, before I came to the American International school in Spain, I was not able to speak any English and I could not understand anything in class but have worked diligently and made a lot of progress as well as making a lot of friends along the way.

It has been a long-term ambition of mine to complete my studies at a university. And it is generally thought that universities in the United Kingdom, have one of the best reputations for higher education in the world. I would really like to continue to pursue my studies in the UK and to become a better version of myself.

Finally, and most importantly, I believe I have the prerequisites not only to achieve a good degree but to progress at a personal level. This would act as a foundation for any future success in the business world.

Since I was small, I have always dreamt of studying in UK. This is because of its diverse culture, films, music, design and much more besides. I go to an American International School in Mallorca to study English, and I have many international friends, so I have had experience communicating with global students. I think that I can use this experience in university life, for example, we must have different outlooks, because of religion and culture. we should respect them, it is very important to know how amazing it is to communicate with others in English and get to know them, even if you don’t speak their languages. When you find a person who has an interesting mindset, talk to them and learn from them, you can pick up new ideas, which is really stimulating. Someone might be interested in where you come from so you can tell them about your country, they will develop a new awareness too, which may help them overcome any preconceived ideas. From my experience, it is really fun to have international friends, students should communicate more especially in an international environment, as it helps them to find new challenges, discoveries and broaden their horizons.

Because my English level has improved a lot and I have decided to go to university in UK. I talked to my councillor and he told me that “ if I dream about something and I don’t try to make my dream come true I could lose my all chances”. So if I get an opportunity to continue studying abroad I don’t want miss chance. Additionally, I am interested in business, and some UK Universities have a very good reputation for education so I think I could pursue my interest and follow my dreams.

Ultimately, my goal is to discover truth.

My personal philosophy is that If you strongly believe what you want to be, then it will come true and making good relationships with people is very important in our countries culture. If you keep following your dream, then it will happen. Since I was little, I’ve been dreaming of studying abroad and being able to speak English. I go to an international school to learn English, I keep trying to understand and comprehend keenly, I feel I am making improvements on a daily basis and am wholly committed to all aspects of my life. Finally, I’ve got the opportunity of being able to study in the UK, thus fulfilling my long-term aspiration.

I consider that it is very important to make good relationships in life. People can’t live by themselves people need to cooperate with their companions such as friends, family, teachers, and even people who you don’t know. Companions can help out with a lot of things in our life, for example, I could not speak any English at the beginning but my friends and teachers helped me with along the way; speaking to me slowly, using basic words, explaining with gestures, all of which have helped me to improve and grow more confident with my English. And I should not forget my parents who have taken care of me as I grew up and guiding me along the way.

Lastly I would like to add that I truly believe that people cannot be happy by themselves, when we achieve our goals we need back up and support, a team to teach, correct and guide so that we can be successful. It is very rare for an individual to achieve this whether it is on the tennis court or in the office on their own.”
